Just after 12am this morning, a woman believed to be in her 20s was struck by a Toyota hatchback on Ash Avenue, Caringbah South and dragged down the road.
She became pinned under the car for more than 90 minutes while paramedics and rescue crews worked to free her.
She was reportedly conscious throughout the ordeal.
The woman was eventually dislodged just after 2am and was taken to St George Hospital in a serious condition with significant leg and arm injuries.
The driver of the Toyota – a woman in her 50s who is known to the injured woman – has been arrested in connection to the incident.
She was subject to a roadside breath test which returned a positive result.
She was then taken to Sutherland Police Station for further breath analysis, where she allegedly returned a reading of 0.166.
Police have established a crime scene and investigations continue.
