A block of land in the South Australian town of Two Wells was a dream come true for the Evitts family.
Dad Joel worked long hours and weekends to afford the 2.5 acre plot – a place to build a home and raise their three children.
But the family was dealt a cruel blow when thieves stole a $15,000 shed they planned to live in and work from during construction.
“They’ve gone into the neighbours’ property … they’ve cut the fence and reversed the truck all the way up to the shed,” Mr Evitts said.
Mum Amy made the devastating discovery on Monday afternoon.
“I walked around and had a look for all the assembled pieces and it was gone,” she said.
The theft occurred between 11am on Saturday and 5.15pm on Monday.
What isn’t clear is how the thieves lifted the heavy flat-pack and made their getaway.
Police are investigating the theft but with no security cameras nearby the clues are scarce.
The family is pleading with whoever took the shed to return it with no questions asked.
“If you’re the person who took our shed, we’d just really like for you to bring it back,” Mrs Evitts said.
“You can just sneak back in through the hole in the fence and just put it back.”
The family is unable to claim insurance as the shed wasn’t yet constructed.
They now have only two months to find a solution.
“Us with our three kids will effectively be homeless for a short time because we need to move out of our house soon and we planned to live in the shed,” Mrs Evitts said.
The family is hoping someone saw something and can report it to police.
“We absolutely cannot afford to replace it,” Mrs Evitts said.
