A 23-year-old man has been arrested after a woman was stabbed in the chest at a Newcastle cafe this afternoon.
Ambulance crews were called just after 2.35pm to Maitland Road, Mayfield to reports a woman had been attacked.
Crews arrived found a 20-year-old woman with significant wounds to the chest.
She has been taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.
A crime scene has been established and detectives are investigating the incident.
A 23-year-old man was arrested nearby a short time later and he is currently assisting police with their inquiries.
