A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being hit by a hatchback in Sydney’s south west early this morning.
Emergency services were called to the Hume Highway at Yagoona around 4am following reports a pedestrian had been struck by a car.
There they found a 57-year-old man with serious head injuries.
He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.
The man had been struck by a Toyota Yaris, the 56-year-old driver of which was taken to Bankstown Hospital for mandatory testing.
Police are now conducting inquiries into the crash, with specialist officers assessing the circumstances that led to the pedestrian being struck.
Two of three eastbound lanes were closed on the Hume Highway at Yagoona, but have since reopened.
Buses in the area were also delayed and are slowly returning on running on time.
