Port Macquarie residents have been ordered to evacuate as fears grow that homes will soon become completely submerged in water.

The Mid North Coast has copped a dumping of rain overnight and this morning, with conditions showing no signs of easing up, concerning authorities that some areas will soon become inaccessible.

Between 300 to 400mm of broad rainfall is expected to batter the region this weekend, with the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) issuing several severe weather warnings for the area, citing a “serious risk”.

“Torrential rain continued overnight across eastern NSW, with 300-400mm observed around Port Macquarie. Major flood warnings (red) are current and more are likely,” the BOM said.
