Dark skies greeted Sydneysiders this morning after days of drizzle which saw winds reach between 35km/h to 50km/h.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a flood warning for the east coast earlier today.
“This rainfall has the potential to cause minor flooding along rivers in the North West Slopes including the Upper Macintyre, Gwydir, Peel, Namoi and Castlereagh,” the warning reads.
“The rainfall may also lead to flooding along coastal rivers in parts of the mid-north coast. Flooding is expected to develop from Sunday evening and into Monday and Tuesday.”
The west of the state is also experiencing unsettled conditions with strong winds and cool temperatures.
“Rain is expected to continue in the northeast early in the new week as the front heads north and reaches the far north coast, before stalling in the region as a trough,” BOM advises.
“Catchments in the north east parts of the state are saturated from recent rainfall.”
Sydney temperatures will sit in the mid to late 20s throughout the week but the rain will remain.
The State Emergency Service advises people to be extra cautious on the roads and to secure any loose items around the home.
Authorities have warned people not to ride a bike or drive through flood water and to be wary of potential landslides.
“Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid,” the SES said in a statement.
“It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks.* After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides.”
