A girl was killed and two other children wounded on Monday in an attack launched by Syrian regime’s forces and Iranian-backed militias in the rebel-held northwestern Idlib governorate, according to Anadolu Agency. The agency said regime forces stationed in the town of Jurin violated the ceasefire agreement and bombed the villages of Hmeimat, Kulaidan and Qastoun in the western countryside of the Hama governorate. The attack resulted in the death of a young girl, while the other two children were rushed to nearby hospitals. An international ceasefire came into force in March 2020 to protect the militant-dominated bastion from a regime offensive. But violations of the truce, brokered by regime ally Russia and rebel supporter Turkey, are relatively frequent, as government forces maintain pressure on the rebel enclave. In past weeks, Russian warplanes have pounded the southern Idlib region in tandem with artillery shelling by regime forces, according to the monitor. The war in Syria has killed nearly 500,000 people since it started in 2011 with the brutal repression of peaceful demonstrations.
