Just after 1.30am, police were called to the restaurant in Bridgewater, in Hobart’s north, after reports that a man had attempted to shoot a member of staff through a window.
The man, 35, attempted to flee the scene when officers arrived, however he was found a short time later and taken to a nearby police station.
The gun was also located and seized.
No staff were injured during the altercation, but many were left “extremely traumatised”, police said.
Police are appealing to any members of the public who may have witnessed the man prior to the incident at the Bridgewater area between midnight and 2am.
He is being described as having distinct red facial hair and was wearing a black puffer jacket, black and white Adidas track pants with florescent gloves.
The incident is being treated as a serious but isolated event and appears to be random.
The man will appear at the Hobart Magistrate’s Court later today while inquiries continue.
