Some payments may be unsuccessful and some card settings may also be unavailable, an alert message on the CommBank app read.

The bank said it was aware of the issues and investigating them “as a priority” when replying to customers online.

The bank confirmed services are now working again.

It said the issue only affected certain transactions including contactless payments in shops.

However, it said people would have been able to make payments by inserting their card.

It said it was investigating the cause.

“We apologise to any customers who experienced any issues with our services earlier today.

“Our systems are now returning to normal.”
