A newlywed couple were forced to spend their wedding night with relatives after a garage fire took hold at their apartment block in Sydney’s west.

Hayden and Hannah Potter returned home to their Penrith unit last night after tying the knot to find the building surrounded by fire crews.

“Well, we didn’t have enough fairy lights at the wedding so now we have got these trucks,” a good-humoured Mr Potter told 9News.

Still in her wedding gown, Mrs Potter, her husband and her bridesmaid, Jaime Swavley, were forced to stand on the street as fire crews battled the blaze.

Today, the couple and Ms Swavley arrived back home after spending the night at their parents’ house.

“So many complications, as with any wedding, but this was just the cherry on top, right? So, it’s all good,” Mr Potter told 9News.

“Initially, we thought we’d all have to share the same room, which was a bit crazy. But thankfully they could have their own space,” Ms Swavley told 9News.

Despite being allowed back home, they were not immediately able to freshen up with the water supply cut off due to fire damage.
