Victoria Police believe the man was an experienced pilot who lived in Burwood.
It is understood that he took off from the airfield, when the weight-shift microlight aircraft crashed about 6.50am this morning.
He man died at the scene and was the sole occupant of the aircraft.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
