A rural Darwin man who won $2.5 million on lotto says he nearly didn’t buy a ticket because the newsagency was busy and he was in a rush.

The winner held one of eight division one winning entries nationally in TattsLotto draw 4139, drawn Saturday 20 March 2021. Each division one winning entry takes home $2.5 million.

The Top End man confessed to an official from The Lott he had been completely oblivious to his win.

“It’s unbelievable! I had no idea,” he said.

“It wasn’t until I checked my ticket at the newsagency a few moments ago that they told me I was a division one winner that they’d been looking for.”

He described the moment as surreal.

“You know, I nearly walked away from buying this ticket. It was busy in-store, and I was in a rush, but I thought, ‘bugger it, I’m here now. I’ll buy it,” he said.

“I just grabbed a QuickPick. I usually buy a 12 game, but this time I went bigger, and that’s what I won on. It must have been meant to be.”

He said plans to use the money to help family, take a trip around Australia and celebrate with a beer.

“I’ll pay off a few bills and help friends and family first up,” he said.

“I’ll be planning a holiday down the track. I’ll start with Australia and then go from there.

“I’ll be having a beer with my family tonight to celebrate.”

The winning entry was sold at Coolalinga Newsagency, Shop 3, Coolalinga Shopping Centre, 425 Stuart Highway, Coolalinga.

“We are so happy our winner has discovered he is a multi-millionaire,” Coolalinga Newsagency owner Tanya Syphers said.

“Congratulations to our winner! We wish him all the best with his prize.”

The winning numbers in TattsLotto draw 4139 on 20 March 2021 were 22, 32, 13, 8, 19, and 9, while the supplementary numbers were 15 and 25.

In 2020, TattsLotto created 122 millionaires across Australia.

During this time, there were 312 division one winning in TattsLotto entries across Australia, which collectively won more than $355.13 million.
