The United Arab Emirates announced Tuesday that it will host the International Atomic Energy Agency’s most complex nuclear emergency exercise this year, a 36-hour drill held every three to five years.
More than 170 countries will take part in the exercise, which will take place at the UAE’s Barakah nuclear power plant on the Gulf coast west of Abu Dhabi, about 340 kilometers (210 miles) from Iranian shores.
The exercise is intended to assess international reaction and capability in the event of a major nuclear disaster.
