A man has been assaulted in a terrifying home invasion in Melbourne’s east overnight after knife-wielding intruders stormed their way through the property.

Three unknown intruders left the front door of the Bulleen home hanging off its hinges, as they raided the Lilian Street property armed with knives about 1am.

The trio assaulted a man inside the home before fleeing the scene.

The victim, a 34-year-old Bulleen man, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

Police are investigating whether the parties involved are known to each other.

It is not yet known what has been stolen.

The investigation remains ongoing.
