At a ceremony Tuesday evening at Washington National Cathedral, His Majesty King Abdullah II of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was presented with the 2018 Templeton Prize in the presence of ambassadors, Jordanian and US government officials, Washington political leaders, faith leaders, the media, and society. “I am extremely honored to be recognized by all of you today.” But allow me to clarify that all you credit me for just continues what Jordanians have always done and lived – in mutual kindness, harmony, and fraternity. So, not on my own behalf, but on behalf of all Jordanians, I accept this great accolade,” King Abdullah II remarked at the ceremony.

The John Templeton Foundation, based in West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, named King Abdullah II as the 2018 Templeton Prize Laureate on June 27. He has done more to promote religious harmony within Islam and between Islam and other religions than any other living political leader. “His Majesty King Abdullah the Second is a man formed by temporal and political responsibilities, but one who believes that religious belief and freedom of religion are among humanity’s most vital callings,” said Heather Templeton Dill, president of the John Templeton Foundation.
