President Moon Jae-in will depart for the United Arab Emirates on Saturday, the first leg on his three-nation Middle East and North Africa visit. On Sunday, Moon will begin his formal itinerary by attending a business roundtable on hydrogen cooperation. He’ll also meet with UAE Prime Minister Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to talk about infrastructure, climate change, and space collaboration. Moon will also attend Expo 2020 Dubai, where he will push South Korea’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo in Busan. On the basis of their special strategic alliance, a summit with Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, is also on the table to strengthen ties in the sectors of defense and healthcare.

President Moon will then go to Saudi Arabia, South Korea’s largest Middle Eastern trading partner and largest foreign building market. Moon will meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Tuesday to broaden the scope of collaboration to include future industries such as artificial intelligence and hydrogen energy. He’ll also take part in a business forum focused on smart, innovative growth. Moon will meet with the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, a six-nation regional body that includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, the next day. The final stage of Moon’s journey will take him to Egypt, a global logistics hub and a gateway to Africa for South Korean businesses.
