The life of a 36-year-old Gulf Cooperation Council national who had suffered a dissected aorta was saved in the nick of time after a grueling eight-hour surgery performed by Dubai Health Authority (DHA) specialists at Dubai Hospital. Blood was reperfused to the patient’s other arteries in the brain, intestines, kidneys, and heart during the aorta replacement. Dr. Ayman Majzoub, an Emergency Medicine expert at Rashid Hospital, described the occurrence on December 31 as follows: “The patient was attending a New Year’s Eve event when he noticed abrupt chest pain.” He was taken to the DHA’s field hospital, which had been set up specifically for medical emergencies on New Year’s Eve. The patient was then taken to the Trauma and Emergency Centre at Rashid Hospital.
Dr. Majoub went on to say that the patient’s condition necessitated immediate medical attention in order to preserve his life. The examinations, which included CT scans, revealed the presence of a dissected aorta and the need for surgery right away. “In the vast majority of these cases, the patient dies before or within 24 hours after arriving at the hospital,” Dr. Majoub revealed. He also stated that the doctors in the Emergency Department worked closely with doctors from other departments within the hospital as well as other DHA hospitals in order to give the best interdisciplinary care and treatment possible.
