Minister of State for Advanced Technology Sarah Bint Yousif Al Amiri paid a visit to Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC), the umbrella body charged with shaping the emirate’s advanced technology R&D environment and driving the UAE’s strategic research priorities. Salem Butti Salem Al Qubaisi, Director General of the UAE Space Agency, accompanied her. ATRC Secretary General Faisal Al Bannai welcomed the high-profile visitors and informed them of the organization’s important initiatives as well as ASPIRE, ATRC’s technology program management pillar. The guests were given tours of the state-of-the-art research centers at ATRC’s applied research pillar, Technology Innovation Institute (TII), and were given firsthand accounts of several of the groundbreaking projects now underway.
The tour began at the Directed Energy Research Center (DERC), where visitors were briefed by Dr. Chaouki Kasmi, DERC’s Chief Researcher, and his team on the center’s recent accomplishments, including the launch of the Laser Matter Interaction Laboratory and the air-borne Multi-band Interferometric Microwave Imaging Project, the latter in collaboration with Brazilian technology disruptor, RADAZ. The GPS Spoofer, a device that looks like a radio transmitter and can deliver a fake GPS signal to a receiver antenna to negate a valid GPS satellite signal, was also demonstrated.
