Jordan’s Royal Hashemite Court has stated that recent media reports about King Abdullah II’s bank account contain falsehoods intended to slander Jordan and the King. According to a press statement obtained by Asharq Al-Awsat from the Jordanian Royal Court, the publications featured false, outdated, and misleading material with the goal of defaming the King and Jordan. The entire balance indicated in various stories is wrong and overblown, according to the Royal Court. The majority of the amounts reported in the accounts are related to the sale of a large Airbus 340 airliner for $212 million and the replacement of it with a smaller, less expensive Gulfstream aircraft, according to the statement.

King Abdullah inherited two planes from the late King Hussein, which were sold and the proceeds utilized to replace them several times over the previous 20 years, including the sale of the Airbus 340 and the purchase of the Gulfstream aircraft that the king is presently flying. “The surplus sum resulting from replacing the large aircraft with a smaller one was used with His Majesty’s private assets and personal wealth to cover the Hashemite family’s private expenses and fund other Royal initiatives throughout the past years,” the Royal Court said.
