During his hurried journey to Dubai, Prince William had his first formal engagement, according to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s Twitter page. During the short trip, William will perform royal responsibilities that will focus on the importance of sustainability, the environment, and wildlife preservation. Prince William was photographed exploring the Jubail Mangroves for native Abu Dhabi species this morning (February 10). The Prince was photographed with younger children planting plants that will one day assist to protect the coastline.
“First destination the Jubail Mangroves, a nature park and a shelter for avian and marine species native to Abu Dhabi,” their Twitter account said in a sequence of three posts. “The Mangrove Initiative will focus on sustainability and preserving the natural environment, providing vital research for supporting biodiversity – including the development of more resilient varieties of the mangrove, which will help protect the Abu Dhabi coastline,” said the next tweet, which was accompanied by a photo of Prince William and His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. “These parks also play a role in their communities, especially for the next generation,” the final tweet read. “It’s great to see programs in place to inspire young people to become tomorrow’s environmental leaders.”
