The United Arab Emirates has been awarded the bid to hold the 27th International Council of Museums (ICOM) General Conference in Dubai in 2025, with the topic “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities.” The new worldwide milestone is expected to cement the UAE’s position as the world’s center of invention and innovation in a variety of industries. After the voting in favor of the UAE’s bid file, which beat over those of Sweden and Russia, Dubai becomes the first city in the Middle East and North Africa to host this important international conference since ICOM’s founding in 1946.
“Dubai’s victory to host the largest global conference on museums, ICOM 2025, with the attendance of 119 countries, covering 20,000 international museums, gives a strong impetus to the country’s cultural sector. Our international museums in our beloved emirate and our national museums throughout the country will lead the way,” His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, tweeted on his official Twitter account. “Dubai wins the hosting of the largest global conference for museums, ICOM 2025,” tweeted H.H.
