The award was given by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) to H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, in appreciation of the UAE’s vital role in fostering integrated global action. The award also honors the UAE’s groundbreaking initiatives in support of the health sector and frontline heroes. This occurred on the sidelines of the PAM’s plenary session, which was held in Rome, Italy’s capital, in the presence of Sergio Piazzi, the organization’s Secretary-General, members of the General Secretariat, and a large number of officials and representatives from international organizations.
Sheikh Saif announced during the ceremony that the UAE, on the orders of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has launched the first edition of the Waterfalls Award to honor 50 doctors and their families from around the world who have provided humanitarian services and sacrificed to protect the safety and health of their communities, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic. The award is part of the UAE’s contribution to global initiatives to recognize and appreciate frontline employees’ accomplishments, sacrifices, and dedication.
