Mercular, an e-commerce platform for lifestyle hobbyists in Thailand, has closed its Series A round at US$4 million with an investment from Thai retail conglomerate Central Retail.
The initial backers of this round are Kairous Capital, CyberAgent Capital, 500 TukTuks, N-Vest Venture, and Premier Advisory Group.
The funding will be deployed to create an all-encompassing community-like shopping experience for hobbyists. One of the main pillars in enabling community commerce is the omnichannel strategy. Mercular will use Central’s vast retail ecosystem to catapult on this.
Woragun, founder and CEO of Mercular, said: “Our key success factor is our deep understanding of the needs of the new generation, especially when they are shopping for Hobby Lifestyle products. With the latest fundraise, we target to upgrade our platform to provide utmost conveniences for all the users, introducing hobby lifestyle products and categories such as a workstation, smart home, etc., and incorporating new community-like features.”

Mercular targets explicitly those with hobbies relating to music, games, sports and home living. Unlike other online marketplaces, it creates and brings forth values for its targeted audience.
The Thai startup currently sells more than 20,000 hobby and lifestyle products. Its products include headphones, speakers, smart home devices, computers and accessories, gaming gear, smart gadgets, mobile accessories, toys and collectibles, game consoles, drones and cameras.
In addition to offering products, the e-commerce firm also handles pre-sales processes such as providing product and content reviews and post-sales processes such as order claims handling.
Central and Mercular will co-develop a community-like commerce shopping experience. Envisioning the vast growth potential of the Hobby Lifestyle category in Thailand and Southeast Asia, Central Retail believes Mercular stands out as a great company and partner to capitalise on the huge market opportunity and to capture a meaningful market share.
