“I was inside making a smoothie – It was just like a rumble, like thunder in the distance then everything just shook,” Mr Hopkins told 9News.com.au.
“Heaps of people felt it – everyone I spoke with said it was like a big bang. I’ve been up in the mountains for about 20 years and have never felt one that big.”
Mr Hopkins said he didn’t think the quake was strong enough to do any damage and was louder more than it was physical.
“Windows rattled but no more than if a garbage truck rolled past,” he said.
There are no reports of injuries or damage to properties.
